When You Realize You Don't Want to Go and Feel Relieved When They Cancel

You made the plans.

And when you made them, they sounded like a great idea.

“Absolutely! That sounds fun.”

You put it on your calendar and may have even looked forward to it.

Then the actual day arrives.

And somewhere between getting off work and realizing you now have to shower, find something to wear, do something with your hair, put on a bra, get in the car, and actually leave the house, something changes.

You don't want to go.

Not because you don't like the people.

Not because anything is wrong.

You just suddenly realize that staying home sounds so much better than whatever you agreed to three weeks ago.

But you said you were going.

So now you're trying to talk yourself into it.

Okay. Get up.

Go take a shower.

You'll have fun once you get there.

Meanwhile, your pajamas are sitting there looking more appealing by the minute.

Then your phone buzzes.

“Hey, I'm so sorry, but can we reschedule?”

And for approximately half a second, you remember that you're supposed to be disappointed.

“Oh no! Is everything okay?”

“Yes, everything's fine. I just can't make it tonight.”

And that's when it happens.

Relief.

Sweet, glorious relief. 😂

“Of course! Don't worry about it. We'll do it another time.”

You put the phone down.

The bra comes off.

The pajamas go on.

And suddenly the same evening at home that sounded completely uneventful two hours ago feels like you've just been handed an all-expenses-paid vacation.

You don't have to drive anywhere.

You don't have to make conversation.

You don't have to decide what shoes go with anything.

You can eat whatever you can find, watch what you want, and go to bed whenever you feel like it.

And here's the funny part.

If they hadn't canceled, you probably would have gone.

And you probably would have had a wonderful time.

But they did cancel.

And you're not mad about it...At all.

Maybe there's something especially wonderful about unexpectedly getting your evening back.

Or maybe we're just tired.

Either way...

If you've ever received that cancellation text and tried to sound disappointed while secretly celebrating...

You know That Feeling. 😂

Where real life is spoken out loud.
