When You Buy the Outfit but Have Absolutely Nowhere to Wear It

There it is.
The outfit.
You weren't looking for it.
You don't need it.
In fact, you have absolutely no business buying it because there is currently nothing on your calendar that requires anything remotely that fabulous.
But you try it on anyway.
And that's where the trouble starts.
Because it fits.
Not just fits.
It FITS.
You look in the mirror.
Turn to the side.
Turn back around.
Maybe take a picture.
And now you're standing there thinking: I can't leave this here.
There's only one small problem.
Where exactly are you going?
No wedding.
No party.
No vacation.
No fancy dinner.
Nothing.
Apparently, however, the woman looking back at you in that mirror has an exciting social life that's going to begin any minute now. 😂
So you buy it.
You take it home.
Hang it carefully in the closet.
And wait.
Weeks go by.
You see it hanging there every time you open the closet.
Still fabulous.
Still unworn.
Still waiting for the life you apparently thought you were going to have when you bought it.
Eventually, you start trying to create opportunities. Could I wear it to brunch? Maybe.
Church? Possibly. Dinner? If somebody would invite me somewhere. Publix? Now listen...
Don't tempt me. 😂
Because at some point, I think we should be allowed to stop waiting for an occasion worthy of the outfit.
Maybe the outfit is the occasion.
Imagine walking into the grocery store completely overdressed and acting like everybody else misunderstood the assignment.
“Ma'am, are you going somewhere special?” “No. I needed eggs.” 😂
I know I can't be the only woman with something hanging in her closet waiting for its moment. The dress. The shoes. The jacket.
Maybe even the purse you bought because you just knew you would have somewhere fabulous to carry it. One day.
And until that day arrives, every time you see it hanging there, you think: I really need somewhere to wear that. Maybe we do. Or maybe we just need to put it on.
Because if you've ever bought an outfit for absolutely no reason other than you looked GOOD in it... You know That Feeling.
Where real life is spoken out loud.
